About Sound Doctrine Review

Holding fast the faithful word... (Titus 1:9)

Our Mission

In an age of theological confusion and shifting cultural tides, Sound Doctrine Review was founded on a simple, biblical principle: the Word of God is the unchanging standard by which all teaching must be measured. Our mission is to equip believers with the tools for discernment, helping them to distinguish sound, biblical doctrine from the pleasing but empty philosophies of men.

The Apostle Paul warned his protégé, Timothy, "For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions" (2 Timothy 4:3). We believe that time is now. This ministry exists to answer that challenge by respectfully and carefully examining modern sermons and teachings, holding them up to the light of Scripture.

Our Method

We believe that critique should be done with grace, precision, and a commitment to fairness. Our reviews are not intended as personal attacks, but as careful analyses of the ideas being presented from the pulpit. We are guided by the Berean spirit described in Acts 17:11, who "received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so."

Each review seeks to:

  • Affirm what is biblically sound: We rejoice whenever the truth of God's Word is proclaimed with clarity and boldness.
  • Identify potential error: We gently but clearly point out any teaching that may deviate from the clear doctrines of the faith, whether it be legalism, liberalism, or any other error.
  • Provide a biblical alternative: Our goal is not simply to deconstruct, but to build up. We aim to always point back to what the Bible actually says on a given topic.

Our Hope

Our ultimate hope is to see the church of Jesus Christ strengthened in its love for and commitment to the truth. We pray that this ministry will be a valuable resource for pastors, teachers, and laypeople alike, encouraging all of us to grow in our knowledge of the Word and our love for the Savior, who is "the way, the truth, and the life."
